FARMWEEKNOW.COM: IFB reiterates need to repeal WOTUS

Illinois Farm Bureau reiterated its support to permanently repeal the 2015 “waters of the U.S.” (WOTUS) rule. IFB President Richard Guebert Jr. submitted a statement during the latest regulatory public comment period regarding the rule.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers continue to facilitate a two-step process to repeal and replace the 2015 rule. EPA and the Corps drafted a new definition, which awaits review by the Office of Budget and Management.

“This is the next piece of the WOTUS puzzle,” said Lauren Lurkins, IFB director of natural and environmental resources. “We also commented on the repeal in July 2017. This is a clarification, so there will be a clear legal record moving forward.”

IFB’s latest comments echoed those of a year ago. They also align with comments submitted by the American Farm Bureau Federation and several other state Farm Bureaus.
